Michael Jackson took more than 10 pills of Xanax a night

Singer Michael Jackson took more than 10 Xanax pills a night, asking his employees to get the prescription medicine under their names and also personally traveling to doctors’ offices in other states to obtain them, said a confidential document from 2004 that CNN obtained Thursday.

Los Angeles detectives are waiting on the coroner’s report on the death of Michael Jackson.

The document from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department contains confidential interviews conducted with two of Jackson’s former security guards as officials prepared for Jackson’s child molestation trial in 2005.

The singer was acquitted after the 14-week trial. But the information about the pills, and the lengths Jackson went to get them, adds to a growing mountain of claims tying the insomniac singer to drugs in recent days.

According to the drug’s Web site, Xanax is for the treatment of panic disorder.

Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton said Thursday detectives have spoken to a number of doctors who have treated Jackson over the years, and are looking into the singer’s prescription drug history.

Doctors who did not cooperate with investigators were issued subpoenas, a source told CNN Thursday. If needed, authorities will issue more, the source said.

Jackson died on June 25. Authorities are awaiting toxicology reports from the coroner’s office to determine the exact cause of death.

“And based on those, we will have an idea of what it is we are dealing (with): are we dealing with a homicide or are we dealing with an accidental overdose?” Bratton said.

The speculation that prescription drugs, particularly sedatives, could have played a role in Jackson’s death keeps coming up with each new nugget of information — and there have been many.

The Jackson family knows that the probe into his death can turn into a criminal case, a source close to the family told CNN on Thursday.

“The family is aware of a potential criminal prosecution,” said the source, who did not want to be identified.

The amount of Xanax that Jackson allegedly took surprised CNN chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta.

In addiction cases, people develop a tolerance to drugs and have to take more and more pills, Gupta said.

“No matter how you cut it, this is an extremely high dosage of Xanax,” Gupta said. “It is a huge red flag, even with the tolerance that I was talking about. This dosage is exceedingly high for any human being.”

Jackson’s attempt to battle sleep disorder

The 2004 document details a dark picture of Jackson’s attempts to battle his sleeping disorder.

One security guard that sheriff’s deputies interviewed said he expressed his concern about Jackson’s use of 10-plus pills a night to another staffer.

The second staffer replied: “Jackson was doing better because he was down from 30 to 40 Xanax pills a night,” according to the document.

One of the guards said he and three other employees would get prescriptions for Jackson under their names.

The second guard backed up the claim, saying he had picked up medicines for the singer that were in other people’s names.

The document contains the names of five doctors — some in California, some in New York and Florida. It was not immediately clear whether police have spoken to them as part of their investigation into Jackson’s death.

After the doctor visits, Jackson would be “out of it and sedated,” one guard said.

According to the sheriff’s office document, the guard who provided the bulk of the information quit his job after Jackson “fell on his face” in a hotel room and hurt himself. The employee told Jackson he was not comfortable getting prescriptions for him and left, he later told investigators.

Years later in 2006, Jackson was in Las Vegas, Nevada, trying to jump-start his career. Deal-maker Jack Wishna, who was helping the singer land a long-running show in Vegas, told CNN the singer would appear “drugged up” and “incoherent” — often so weak and emaciated he had to use a wheelchair to get around.

The comeback shows were canceled because of Jackson’s condition, Wishna said.

Around that time, sister Janet Jackson was so worried about Jackson that she tried to stage an intervention with assistance from her other brothers, two sources close to the Jackson family told CNN Wednesday.

Jackson reportedly ordered his security guards not to let the family members in. He also refused to take calls from his mother, Katherine, CNN has learned.

At the time, the Jackson family released a statement to People magazine denying the alleged intervention. But Janet Jackson was not among the signatories.

Along with the police investigation, which is being aided by the state attorney general’s office and the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office has also drawn up a list of Jackson’s doctors and is trying to talk to them to determine what drugs they may have prescribed him.

Among them are Dr. Arnold Klein, Jackson’s dermatologist, and Dr. Conrad Murray, his cardiologist.

Klein told CNN Wednesday that Jackson was addicted to drugs at one point but had kicked the habit.

Murray, who has been interviewed by police, has repeatedly said he will withhold comment until the coroner’s tests are back.

Among others who have indicated that Jackson may have been using dangerous prescription medication are a nutritionist, Cherilyn Lee, who said Jackson pleaded for Diprivan despite being told of its harmful effects.

Sources close to Jackson told CNN that the insomniac singer traveled with an anesthesiologist who would “take him down” at night and “bring him back up” during a world tour in the mid-90s.

Another source involved with the probe told CNN that investigators found numerous bottles of prescription drugs in the singer’s 0,000-a-month rented mansion in Holmby Hills.

The Associated Press and the Los Angeles Times, citing unnamed sources, said police found Diprivan.

Diprivan is a powerful sedative that is administered intravenously and is known by its generic name Propofol.

Bratton did not elaborate on what was discovered.

“At the time of the death with search warrants, we were able to seize a number of items from the residence where the death occurred and those will assist in the investigation,” he said.

Cheap Flights to Enjoy European Holidays

Cheap flights to Bucharest, the capital of Romania opens up some exciting holiday possibilities. People travel to Bucharest simply out of curiosity to discover this city of paradoxes. It has grim architecture and the sophisticated culture and everything in between to offer to its visitors.

Bucharest is the largest and the wealthiest metropolis of the country and has extravagant public structures standing alongside untidy and congested streets. There are also a series of Stalinist apartment blocks and incomplete constructions that can be slightly put-offish for the first time visitors. The city’s elegance and beauty took a major beating during the dark communist era.

Bucharest today is a mixture of museums, galleries, exquisite churches and architectural marvels. The emotions of history that Bucharest has suffered over the decades are well reflected in its political legacy.

Historical buildings are being restored and there is a pulsating energy in the newly acquired nightlife in Bucharest.

If you are arriving here in summer, you can expect to get baked in the dry heat waves. In winters, temperatures rarely rise above freezing point. The best time to holiday is in the months of April and May and in the autumn months of September and October.

Cheap flights to Bucharest arrive from world capitals and states at the Henri Coanda Otopeni International Airport situated 16 km north of Bucharest. You can take the express bus service from the airport to reach the city but there are car rentals and taxi services also available which can take you to the city conveniently and affordably.

Do not expect parks and souvenir stands when you arrive here on a holiday to Bucharest. The city is more popular for its galleries and museums. You have to be a bit alert because clubbers and gamblers in the new night clubs and casinos may not be exactly reliable. You can savor traditional Romanian cooking alongside international cuisine at many places. In summer cheerful crowds fill the picturesque parks and festive beer gardens.

The Bucharest International Film Festival is a major event and lasts a whole week with screenings of classic movies and retrospectives. The Bucharest Street Music festival is held on the cobbled alleys and winding roads of the medieval old city. Traditional folk music is the flavor here.

The main cultural event of Bucharest is the Europa Fest. It attracts performers and music lovers form over 50 countries. Jazz, Blues and Rock music rules the events held at some of the finest venues in Bucharest.

Historical Romance Novels Set in Europe

I recently traveled to Italy and France and I couldn’t help but think that these countries would make the perfect setting for romance novels. The gothic spires and quaint cafes of Paris, the rolling hills of Tuscany, the mystique of Venice. I felt like I was on the set of a movie, or in a book. It made me wonder, why aren’t more Romance Novels set in France or Italy? Or more exotic places like Egypt, Greece, or Japan?

In France and Italy, the fascinating local history and the picturesque scenery captivated me. So, why not create a series of Romance Books, not only set in a romantic country, but in a historic time period? Something like the classic pre-war romance Gone with the Wind. This is a dramatic story set in a beautiful, romantic place, during a momentous period in history. I didn’t think that similar romances set in Europe existed until I came across two mystery series set in England during the Interwar period (the period between the two world wars, 1918-1939). The first is Jacqueline Winspear’s Maisie Dobbs series and the second is Rhys Bowen’s Royal Spyness.

Both of these Erotic Books are set in England during the same time period yet they have many differences. This is a testament to the complexity of the era in which they are set. Winspear’s Maisie Dobbs grew up very poor, and as a girl, started working as a servant for a wealthy family. Her life was wretched, until she discovered the library in the family manor. When, one night, her master caught her reading, he introduced her to a famous detective. The detective sensed Maisie’s potential, and began tutoring her.

Bowen’s Lady Georgina, by contrast, was the great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria. She received an excellent education, and was expected to marry somebody of a distinguished background. However, she rebelled against this traditional path.

While each series has a distinctly different personality, they both deal with many of the same issues facing English citizens in the Interwar Period, including unemployment among World War I veterans, the rise of European fascism, and the changing role of women. Both books also contain a fair amount of humor.

The Lady Georgina books are lighthearted while the Maisie Dobbsstories have more of a bleak tone. Maisie and her fiancée were both brutally injured in the war and while Maisie made great improvements socially, she still had to deal with the lower classes.
I have become fascinated with these vignettes of English life during the Interwar period. I’d love to read similar books set in the same time period, but in Italy or France. The historical events in those countries during the Interwar period were equally as dramatic and would make for intriguing plots.

Mileage Allowance Expenses MP And Ministers Versus The General Public UK

Ever wondered, if you are getting the same allowances as your minister / mp (i.e those on mapmiles.com) .  I think not! But you’d be surprised they are subject to a good deal of rules like you.  But yeah, you guessed it the one or two exceptions make a big difference to the wallet of the MP or Minister.

The leaflet by HM Revenue & Customs entitled “MPs, Ministers and tax” designed for use by the MP’s and Ministers gives a good synopsis of the rules applicable to MP‘s and Ministers.

As an MP or Minister all payments and facilities you receive by reason of your office are taxable, unless there is a specific exemption or an Extra-Statutory Concession (ESC) covering the particular item.

There are four main types of expenditure which a minister of MP can claim from the Department of Finance and Administration.

    * Additional Costs Allowance (ACA) for the additional cost of staying overnight away from home.
    * Incidental Expenses Provision (lEP) for the expenses of running an office or purchasing equipment and buying in services.
    * Staffing Allowance for the expense of employing staff. For example, secretaries and research assistants.
    * Travel Allowances for your journeys on Parliamentary business.

Details on these allowances can be found in the Green Book which is a guide to members allowances:

The ACA is specifically exempted but there is no tax relief for any expenditure above this.

IEP is subject to general tax rules and is taxable but expenses wholly, exclusively and necessarily in the performance of the minister or MP’s duties as a Member.

The staffing allowance is taxable appears to have the same rules as for the IEP.

Travel allowances are taxable but there are some exceptions: -
There is an exemption for travelling and related expenses received in respect of members visits to a EU institution, a national parliament of another member state or European Free Trade Association member.

There are special rules regarding journeys which are allowable.  For example: -

    * journeys between your main home and Westminster;
    * between Westminster and your constituency
    * between your main home and your constituency on your duties as a Member within your constituency
    * any other travel in the UK on parliamentary business (provided it qualifies under the rules in force for extended travel and subject to prior clearance with the Department of Finance and Administration).

The general rules for normal employees is that travel expenses between home and work are NOT allowed.  This is a significant difference when you consider the payment per mile.

The two key differences between ministers / mp’s and the public appear to be the additional cost allowance and the differing rules regarding travel from home.  While these differences are few in number they are significant in monetary terms.

Also of note is that MP’s and ministers are allowed to use the Motor Mileage Allowance for their mileage expenses which means that even ministers of the parliament (or their assistants) and MP’s could be using http://www.mapmiles.com to calculate mileage expenses / mileage allowance and distances between two points.

How to Plan Low Cost Vacations.

Going on vacation at places we long for is  always in our plan but managing the cost is often the problem.

I’d like to share some tips how to plan a vacation which are supposed to help you push the cost of your traveling. My own experience in traveling is also contributed to make this hub richer in contents .

Instructions

1

Plan It As early As Possible.

Make your vacation plan 3-4 months earlier is better. You can make your preparation during this time including looking for the cheap tickets, where you stay, and the itinerary of your trip.

Normally the early you reserve the ticket the cheaper and vice versa, it will be more expensive if you buy it near departure.

The early planning also enables you to anticipate if there are sudden alterations.

2

Do Your Vacation At The Right Time.

Try to avoid going on vacation at peak seasons like Christmas, New Year, and other long holidays that your country has. In my country, besides those two seasons, Eid Al Fitr, School holidays in Junes and Decembers are including the peak seasons.

The demands of tickets of all modes of transports as well as hotel occupation are high at those moments that make their prices above normal.

Many tourism sites are crowded too at high seasons which also make your holidays not so enjoyable.

3

Keenly Check  Ticket Prices.

There are two ways to check the plane tickets: through the internet and/or contact your travel agents.

Some flights regularly promote their budget tickets in the internet. To check the price of tickets you need, just type your flight schedule, number of tickets being ordered, then click search. The prices will be displayed for just in seconds. Do it frequently until you find the price which fits your target budget.

The second way is call your travel agents for the price checks. The agents will surely help get the best price for you. You can compare the price they offer with the price offered by other agents, or with rates of your own search in the internet.

It’s wise to consider the rule of thumb that the price is always cheaper to buy it through the internet or your travel agents than purchase it directly at the airport.

4

Find Alternatives Where to Stay.

Besides the hotels, there are some alternatives for the places to stay during vacation. you can consider your relative house (why not ,as long as you get their consent ),

If you plan to go to another country without family, staying with local people can be another experience and offers thrift too. First you need to register to join the community at www.couchsurfing.org to be acquainted with people in the country of your destination. You can select your host based on your preference like age, location, gender and other factors. Couchsurfing is actually a social network which has more than 2.4 million members in 245 countries.

5

Don’t Play It By Ear.

Good preparations, including reserving hotels, prior to your travel are of course much wiser and economical than if you do instant check in on your arrival. The same thing you should do for the ticketing; the more time for reservation the better.

You certainly don’t want to have the experience my family and I once had when we visited Bali in 2008. Confidently made no reservation, we landed at the airport at 11:15 pm. I called up some hotels on my list but all gave the same news: fully booked. I didn’t have idea where to stay since the hotel rooms which I thought readily available were mostly occupied. We were still dragging our luggage a long the street at midnight before we finally got a room an hour later for a price they couldn’t compromise !.

You can check all hotel lists and their prices all over the world by searching them in the internet. For asian countries you can click http://www.asiarooms.com and for other countries you can check them out at www.venere.com orwww.magicaljourneys.in .

Another way to enjoy your travel is go by train. European countries offer comfort for train travelers and tickets bought by reservation are much more economical. Click www.eurail.com to make the reservation. It is important to know that buying the tickets some days in advance in the internet is much cheaper than if you buy it at the last minute at rail station.

6

Do You Need to Take a Tour Package ?

Going on holidays on your own arrangement is basically cheaper than if you take a holiday package provided by travel agents. Many travelers, by the way prefer to take tour package for destination, security, and comfort reasons.

I had a valuable experience about the importance of taking a tour package, especially when we deal with new places. It happened when my family and I tried to get some attractive destinations of a city but ended up wasting my time in the street asking several local people for directions every time I met intersections just to find the right ways. We really regretted that moment for having lost much of our time and energy on the way.

Again, the prices offered by travel agents need checking and compare them one another is the best way before you decide which agent to chose.

7

Time to Shop.

– Go to a shopping center, shop, or market without your guide. The shopping centers, shops or particular markets have to spare some cost for the guide commission which make them increase the price.

– Go to unpopular, not tourist-center shopping places, shops or markets. Popular and tourist-center shopping places (including shops and markets) tend to be more expensive.

-Sharpen your bargaining skills. Many shopping places offer unfixed prices, so they are open for negotiation. Although it’s not a common rule, many products (handicraft, clothes) can be negotiated down to 1/2 of the prices offered, and car rentals are also negotiable subject to length of rent.

-Bring cash, use credit card only in emergency situations, will help you control your extravagant shopping.

Enjoy Your Holidays !

How To Get To Southern Africa From All The Major Continents

No matter which part of the world you are from, there is bound to be a fairly easy way for you to get to the part of Africa you wish to travel. You can fly from most major ports into South Africa with SAA. From there, you can get a connecting route to almost anywhere in Africa you please.

Other major airlines from Europe, Australia and America frequently have flights to South Africa. British Airways, Lufthansa and KLM are of the most frequent European Airlines. Emirates Airline has regular flights from the East.

It can often be cheaper to fly to Johannesburg from London via Dubai with Emirates than direct with other airlines. This may also be the case if you are flying from Australia.

If there are no direct flights from your own country to the African country you are visiting, then you will need to get a connecting flight from OR Tambo aiport in Johannesburg.

Most African countries have their own airlines which do domestic flights between major towns in their country and to other African countries.

South Africa has a number of airlines of which quite a few lost cost airlines that fly between Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg. Mango, 1Time and Kulula have great deals if you book at the right time.

Their air crafts are most probably the ugliest on the tarmac but they get the job done and you won’t ever get onto the wrong plane. Mango is very distinctly orange, the entire plane is orange. 1Time looks like a dirty red spot and Kulula a bright dark green overgrown bug.

If North Africa is your destination, you may consider driving from Southern Europe and taking the ferry from Spain to Morocco. These trips require much more planning than flying in.

Road networks in Africa are from average to bad to non-existent in certain places. Hospitals and medical services are few and far apart and not all African countries are safe to drive in if you are not an expert on schemes and bribery.

The Italian cruise liner, the MSC Melody, do some trips between Durban on the East Coast of Africa and Genoa in Italy. After the recent attack on this liner by pirates from Somalia this service might now be in jeopardy.

Quite a number of boat cruises are available between Durban and some of the Islands in the Indian Ocean. The MSC Sinfonia has regular cruises to Portuguese and Mozambique Island, of the coast of Mozambique, and occasionally to Mauritius.

The ideal for any traveler coming to the Southern part of Africa will be to start the trip in South Africa and from there travel to the other African countries.

Moroccan way of life

Welcome to Africa my friend, now we are in another dimension: time and space changes their link, a day could endure more than 24 hours. It seems strange to you, i know, but you have to see this place to get this concept.
When you will be there, you will see.
Morocco has always been a crossroads between Africa, Europe and Middle East, so many cultures are mixed in this territory from north to south you can see an endless sort of people and environments, scents and sounds that permeate everything, especially “the old medinas”. Ancient buildings, small streets all around where you can easily get lost, but where the atmosphere is simply indescribable.

One of the better thing in Morocco is the food, you can believe me I am Italian. A lot of variety of foods: meat, cereals, vegetables, fruit, fishes all genuine and really delightful. I never eat better than in Morocco maybe neither in Italy, cause the aliments are really natural: no antibiotics or pesticides, especially on the mountains you can smell the perfumes of these extraordinary plates. Obvious they mix all the foods with a lot of spices, that are also very tasty. You’ll enjoy every meal, I am sure. You can try the soups sold on the streets in the small take away, sharing your meal with local people or go to the restaurant to sit down and relax. If you choose to stay in a house with a Moroccan family, where is possible to cook you can go to the market and buy whatever you want. I suggest you to choose this way of accommodation, so you can feel the real Moroccan’s way of life.

One thing that you can’t miss it’s the dry fruit, you’ll find that everywhere: peanuts, walnuts, pistachios, almonds, dry apricots, etc, obvious the spices too.

You have a lot of choices there, you can visit the big mountains in the north, Morocco has them in abundance, rising from the Rif into the Middle Atlas and on into the extraordinary contours of the High Atlas, or you can choose the cities or the sea or if want to try the real wilderness obviously you can go to the desert. Where are we going? i guess… on the mountains. A long travel by coaches to get into this new world.
Now we are on the mountains and we can breathe the nature, free animals around us, no fences, no big farm where the animals lives in cages, on these wild mountains the animals can go upside down, free to move everywhere.
Little villages all around, you can see houses spread in the wilderness, small farms, and old streets that leads us to the peak of this mountain. Close your eyes and imagine it, I am not describing it. Back to the modern life you can find big cities like the imperial cities: Fez, Marrakech, Rabat, Meknes, Tanger, Casablanca or little villages lost in the wind of time, where you can feel the ancient ages, the first impact is to be in the old far west, unbelievable experience.

Fez is large and bustling but not as busy a tourist destination as Marakech is currently, Meknes is more relaxed but still bursting with history and both are ideal bases for the mountains and the impressive ruins and mosaics at the Roman site of Volubilis. Rabat has the stately monuments and palaces of the capital plus a great relaxed atmosphere located as it is on the mouth of the Bou Regreg river. Casablanca, although it has none of the charm or history of the other cities offered here, is a very convenient stopover for first and last nights in Morocco and we highly recommend a visit to the very impressive Hassan II Mosque. Casablanca and Tanger and only there you have to be careful, cause if you go outside the criminality raise and you, as a tourist could be an easy pray, in my opinion this is the only two dangerous cities.

Everywhere you need a supply of small coins, it’s vital for the payment of taxis, tips and guides. Trust me you’ll need these coins.
A tip for everyone: the taxi is cheap but especially in the cities no one use the meter with tourist to calculate the cost of your trip, so you can decide the cost of the travel before, with the driver or ask him to switch on the meter. Often he refuses to use it, so you can choose to get off or to give him the little money that he wants, for you will not be a big deal.

I suggest everyone to see all the big cities but to leave them to live in the country side, the mountains or the desert, cause is there that you can see the real Moroccan way of life. If you stay in the big cities you have to visit and find a room in the medinas, which is the old part of the city, full of history and folklore, you’ll can brethe the spirit of the people. The new cities is pretty similar to ours: big streets, big palaces, a lot of people everywhere.
At journey’s end, the solitude of the Sahara is ideal for contemplating why it is that Morocco has such cachet.
Now it’s time for you to discover what are you searching, i gave you only a bit of what you can find in this amazing country.
